I picked him up from school
A favor for a friend
I drive
He sat in the back seat looking out the window
I said hi
He said hi
I asked did you know I was picking you up from school
Yes he said
I asked how was school
Fine he said
We got drinks from Sonic
We waited at the Bookstore until he was to be
picked up by his grandmother
We sat
He started his homework
I started to read a book
I was drinking a fresh fruit slushy
He was drinking eating a thick shake of some kind
We are both aware of each others presence
This is our first time alone
We are unsure of what to say
We are unsure of what to talk about
I ask a question
He answers
No conversation in-between
He continues to do his homework
I continue to read my book
We seem to have nothing in common but knowing the same people
His parents
His sister
His aunts and uncles
Both his grand mothers
I have know him since his birth
He has known me since his birth
But still we have nothing to talk about
Maybe we are unknowingly saving conversation for the next time
we sit in the bookstore alone together
I may have to pick him up tomorrow
What will we say
